CAN NETWORK LOG ANALYSIS FOR BIT STUFFING RATIO DETECTION

Nowadays, technological functions and the number of electronic control units used on the vehicles are increasing rapidly. Accordingly, the number of messages and signals required for communication between electronic controls units increase. This leads an increment on the Bus Load in network traffic and Worst Case Response Time (WCRT) for each message. Bit Stuffing which is used for synchronization between CAN nodes is directly related with Bus Load and WCRT increase. Since this parameter affects the overall gap analysis, Bit Stuffing ratio is used as a parameter in timing analysis of vehicle network. Usually, in gap analysis, a generic value is chosen for bit stuffing ratio so the analysis result does not show real value of WCRT and Bus Load. In this study, a software application was developed to determine a realistic bit stuffing ratio by analyzing vehicle log file. By using calculated value as an input to simulation model, timing analysis could be improved. By this way, timing analysis result will be closer to the real CAN traffic condition.
