STRESS ANALYSIS OF THIN RIMMED ASYMMETRIC SPUR GEARS

Thin rimmed involute spur gears are widely used as transmission element when lightweight purpose is demanded. Higher stress values occur in thin rimmed spur gears when comparing solid rim ones, because of rim deformations. For this reason, non-standard tooth profiles are investigated to decrease root and rim stress. In this study, main aim is to determine the effects of using asymmetric spur gear on stress for thin rimmed gears. For this the modeling of asymmetric thin rimmed is generated with using equations of involute and trochoid curves. The created model was exported to CAD environment. 3D design was made for finite element model in CAD program. Finite element analyses were conducted for different coast side pressure angle for selected rim thickness. According to results when pressure angle was increased, the tensile stress on root decreased nearly up to rate of 23%. Besides rim stress decreases approximately 13%.
