COMPACT MIXER DESIGN FOR HEAVY DUTY SCR APPLICATION

Diesel emission regulations for heavy duty vehicles become stringent requirements for Eu6 application especially NOx. Most challenging system development to meet diesel emission regulations are selective catalyst reduction (SCR) system for NOx reduction.
To achieve higher NOx emission reduction, urea injection system with compact mixer development is required. Higher NH3 uniformity over the SCR catalyst, lower deposit accumulation on the system, lower ammonia slip and lower backpressure are essential key parameters of the mixer design. 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) are used to assess the mixer design that is meet required design target. High speed camera is capable to visualize deposit accumulation over the time.
In this work, numerical methods and experimental work have been developed to design and predict the compact mixer design for Eu6 application. Steady State 3D CFD Spray simulations are run to extract required design information for the compact mixer. The experimental results provide to understand complex physics such as deposit accumulation. This approach help develop better design for Eu6 SCR application.
